FTP

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is the way you send your content to us. The process of sending a file from your computer to our server is called "uploading". In order to upload your content to our server, you need a FTP Client. We recommend WS_FTP from www.ipswitch.com.

When you set up your FTP client, you may need all or some of the following:

Profile name: MCOMS
FTP server / hostname: ftp.yourdomain.com
Host type: Automatic (or UNIX)
Account: (empty)
Username: As sent in your welcome e-mail
Password: As sent in your welcome e-mail

Your domain name needs to have fully transferred to our servers before you can upload content. This usually takes between 12 and 72 hours from when you update your nameservers.

Upload all content which you wish the public to have access to via your web address in the public_html directory. Perl CGI scripts must be uploaded in ASCII mode and chmodded to 755 (rwxr-xr-x).

There is a tutorial explaining the basic steps to upload content to your website using WS_FTP, here. This tutorial also explains "chmodding" and how to do it. The tutorial is in Acrobat PDF format.

You may also add extra FTP accounts with specific usernames and passwords which have access to certain directories within your homedir. You can do this by logging into cPanel at https://www.yourdomain.com:2083/ and selecting: FTP Manager -> FTP Accounts -> Add Account.

Files in your "public_ftp"directory can be made available to the public via anonymous FTP. You can set this up through cPanel's FTP Manager -> Anonymous FTP Controls pages.
